Transportation to Airport from Phnom Penh City Center

Phnom Penh Intl. Airport

There are many ways to travel to Phnom Penh International Airport from the city. One of these methods, tuk tuk, can provide the fastest way to reach the airport. You can also evaluate motorcycles, private, shared or airport taxis, car rental, and city bus alternatives. It takes about 25-30 minutes to go to Phnom Penh International Airport, which is only 10 kilometers from the city center.

Tuk Tuk

India and Cambodia's most popular transportation vehicle, the tuk tuk, is essentially a three-wheel motorcycle. The main reason why most tourists use this vehicle is because it is cheap and it is faster than cars and buses when traffic is heavy. It is possible that you will come across these small vehicles with a maximum 2 people capacity in every part of the city. From whichever point in the city center you take it, the fee you will pay to go to Phnom Penh International Airport is fixed ($ 9). In some cases, this fee can be $ 6 and $ 7. These tuk tuks that you can call at your hotel or hostel also serve as a taxi. When you travel with a tuk tuk, you need to pay attention that your luggage is not too big, and if possible, take your goods on your lap or put it under your feet.

Motorcycle

If you are looking for the fastest way to get to Phnom Penh International Airport from the city, motorcycles are for you. Almost everywhere in the city you can see motorcycles, which offer transportation services like taxis. If you want to catch your plane and get to the airport quickly without being caught in traffic, you can choose motorcycles. There are also motorcycle taxis that provide direct transportation between the city center and Phnom Penh International Airport. Motorcycle taxi drivers transport the passengers to the airport for an average of 7 dollars. If you get one of the regular motorcycles you can go to the airport at a fee of less than $ 2-5. It would take you about 30-35 minutes. We recommend you, if you do not have your baggage in small sizes, to choose a city bus or taxi.

Bus

The most practical and cheap way to reach Phnom Penh International Airport from the city center is by no means to use city buses. It is possible to get to the airport in about 40 minutes by taking bus no. 03 from any of the 20 stops located at the most central points of the city. You have to get the ticket which does not exceed 1 dollar to get on the bus which is the most preferred transportation method for direct transportation to the airport. The bus number 03, which you can get to from the central points such as Central Market, Plaza Market, Phnom Penh Water Park and Boyoung, is operating from 05.30 to 20.30, and departing every 15 minutes.

Taxi

Phnom Penh offers three different modes of taxis, including private taxis, shared taxis and airport taxis, which you will often find in the city. Traveling with special taxis is a bit more expensive than the others, but remember that you have a chance to negotiate. Some of the private and reliable taxi companies you can call to wherever you are, are Makara Taxi (+855887777327), Global Taxi and Phnom Penh Taxi Service (+85510978889). You can arrive at Phnom Penh International Airport in 10-15 minutes by paying a fee of $ 10 if you bargain with private taxi drivers who initially charge between $ 17-20. Airport taxi is a little more like a bus system and airport taxi stops are located at the most central points of the city. You need to pay $ 12 to go from the city center, Wat Phnom or Riverside to the airport without any transfers, $ 15 to go to airport from places like BKK, Russian Market and $ 18 from Chroy Changvar (across the river). Shared taxis, one of the cheapest means of transport, start the charges at $ 2 per person, but it is worthwhile to say that they are slower than the others.

Car Rental

You can browse the local and foreign car rental companies located in Phnom Penh city to go to the airport by your own vehicle. If you have pre-booked and have an international license, you are likely to rent a car on a daily or hourly basis at reasonable prices. You can reach Phnom Penh International Airport in 10 minutes thanks to car rental, which is a really budget-friendly means of transportation for both comfortable and quick transportation.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Rail

Suvarnabhumi Airport opened for international commercial flights in 2006. The rail system serves as the main transportation method between the airport, located around 30 km, and the city. The “City Line” is a six-station metro line that connects the airport to downtown Bangkok in 30 minutes. Makkasan Station and Phaya Thai Station are accessible using the Airport Rail Link, which connects you to the MRT and BTS Skytrain.

Phaya Thai is located about 15 minutes away on foot from the entertainment center of the city, the Phat Pong district. You can also get to the Suhkumvit and Silom districts, where luxury hotels are located, from this station by getting on buses 77 and 163.

Khao San Road, where hostels, cheap accommodation options for backpackers, and entertainment venues are located, is a short distance away; you can take buses 201 and 503 and get there in less than 30 minutes. There are two minibus lines that depart from the airport and go to Victory Monument. The 550 line operates within the city and the 551 line is an express line that travels on the motorway. These buses depart from the arrival terminals; the stops are located in between gates 1 and 8.
