The city of Djanet in the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria, the largest country in North Africa, is a city with a population of about 15 thousand according to 2008 data and the majority of the population is composed of Muslims. Berbers are the majority in Djanet which is a desert city in east of Algeria. This area, which was settled from the Neolithic times and was not desert at the time, was being used by hunter-gatherers.
They still live as the majority in the region that was rediscovered by the Berbers in the Middle Ages. Djanet is composed of a valley formed by the Oued Idjeriou River, which continues intermittently along the south-west of Tassili N’Ajjer Mountain. While the Tadrart Rouge ranges are in the southeast of the city, Libya’s Tadrart Acacus ranges are in the south of it. For this reason, the humidity in this region is slightly higher and the amount of precipitation is higher compared to other cities. And because it is surrounded by mountains, wildlife dominates the region. Djanet Inedbirene Airport is located 50 kilometers south of the city center.
