Mineralnye Vody, located in Russia's North Caucasus Region, is famous for SPA centers. The name of the city means "Mineral Water" in Russian. The city is a small settlement connected to the Stavropol Creek and is located on the banks of the Kuma River and on the Rostov-na-Donu-Baku (Azerbaijan) line, one of the main railway lines of the country. The foundation of the Mineralnye Vody is based on railway construction in the region in the 1870s. The first name of the city that obtained the status of 'village' in 1878 was 'Sultanovsky' because the lands it was founded belong to the Crimean Giray Sultanate.
